It is with a very heavy heart I must tell you that Barrie Morton, our dear friend and the wonderful tenor voice behind the North South Divide died suddenly yesterday evening. His wife Maggie was with him and our love and thoughts go out to her in her sadness and grief.
Barrie was such a characterful performer, an intense and passionate singer whose involvement in Folk Music spanned over fifty five years.
During the 60’s he was part of the folk group The Taverners whose popularity grew out of the folk revival of that era. His knowledge of folk songs, singers and the stories behind them were a constant source of amazement (and amusement) to me and many others who were fortunate enough to spend time with him.
He was dearly loved and to say he will be missed is an understatement.
I am sure you will all be as sad and shocked as we are.
Barrie’s funeral will take place at 9:45 at the crematorium in Bergerac this Thursday, 7th May.
Barrie’s family has asked that donations be made to RNLI and Kent Air Ambulance in lieu of flowers. Donations in euros will be sent as a Sterling cheque to the charities.
